| DiscoverE Centre |
|
Since presenting its Business Plan to Murrindindi Council last July the Committee has been very busy demonstrating that the proposal has a high level of local community and regional support; and re-visiting and strengthening those items relating to the environmental education component of this multifunctional Centre. At the same time Council has held successful talks with representatives of other potential Centre stakeholders (GBCMA, YBTA and the Taungurung Clan). More recently, Council allocated $5,000 to engage a professional economic modeller to assist in the further development of the Business Plan. All calls for letters of support from local, regional and metropolitan schools and other environmental centres such as the Toolangi Forest Discovery Centre have been glowingly met. Copies of those letters have been provided to Council. In addition to this the Committee, supported by the Trust, has held events and successfully promoted the Centre’s development across the region. The most frequently asked question now is - When is the Discover-E Centre going to commence? Before the Committee is able to answer the question, it is necessary for Council to reconsider the Business Plan and/or formally adopt the Discover-E Centre project as its Project. In order to provide more information to Council the Trust recently engaged the services of Laurance Robertson, an Architect to conduct a workshop with all stakeholders, develop a bubble plan that allocates floor space and enables better estimation of building costs. When complete this information will feed into the economic modelling and refinement of hte Business Plan. As soon as that has occurred all Discover-E stakeholders will work together to source the funds necessary to prepare fully costed architect designed plans and commence construction. |
